December 3, 2007Hey Everyone.
I hope you’ve all recovered from the holiday of eating…. I know I still have some leftovers haunting my fridge.
I’ve been very busy at work, so I’m sorry for the delay in posting. I plan to do a four part series the month of December on goal setting (one post per week on this subject). I did a November/December PRO article for the Georgia Romance Writer’s on-line magazine, The Galley, on setting goals. I’m waiting until it comes out for GRW’s members before posting it on my website. But for those of you who aren’t GRW members (and why aren’t you!!!), I’ll post it towards the end of the month.
I know the New Year is a very big time for goal setting. I honestly can’t remember a time when I didn’t have at least one New Years Resolution. Okay, so kissing Jon Bon Jovi back in the 80’s was a little ridiculous; but hey, that was my life back then. Because I have so many irons in the fire with the ‘day job,’ the kid’s extra curricular activities, my hubby, my volunteering with Georgia Romance Writers, ohh and my writing, I NEED to start earlier than January 1st. So I use December to reflect on the current year’s goals. While I’m doing that, I begin my list for the next year.
I’m a true advocate for setting goals, as you can probably tell from this very long post. I’ll also admit that I’m one of the first to break most of them. But without goals, things tend to be forgotten.
Since you’re here, tell me your goals for 2008. And it doesn’t have to do with writing.

I used to do the goals setting program and articles for my RWA chapter, too! Too funny : )
Tami, I had two main goals for 2007: losing about 40 pounds and finishing my manuscript. I did finish my manuscript, but so far have only dropped 25 pounds.
Since then, I have realized that my manuscript needs a great amount of re-write before it will sell. So, I guess it, like the diet, is a work-in-progress.
Still, I am pleased with how far I have gotten.
My goals next year are to find an agent and get a publishing contract.
I also need to finish the re-write.

That is funny. I’ve actually found that doing this with my local chapter has kept my writing front and center in my mind. I feel guilty if I try to put my ms aside to do something for the chapter. So I’m finding myself balancing the two.
By the way, I can’t wait for your new book to come out in February. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for it…

Best of luck on your 2008 goals. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you. I’m thrilled that you were able to meet most of your 2007 ones.
Now, if I can get in gear and get my comments to you, maybe you can finish the edits on your ms -grin-.
