Out with the old.
2013 was totally out of control (for me). To start with, I wanted to give something back to my local writing chapter and volunteered to chair the Maggie Awards. I had no idea the massive project I was taking on. As rewarding and educational as it was, I have to admit it was way more than I had expected.
Another game changer for 2013 was my husband deploying for most of the year, leaving me to handle everything here on the home front. I learned a lot about myself and my abilities with this experience.
On top of that, I had some major issues with my hormones. Menopause struck hard and hot. For most of the year I was exhausted and unable to regain my cool.
Adding to all that was work, a teenager, sports, marching band, and classes for my training program. I was constantly on the go. Thus, something had to give and (sadly) that something was my writing.
So I’m kicking 2013 to the curb and welcoming 2014 with open arms. I don’t expect all that “other” stuff to disappear. But I did cut out and move on from some of the things that just wouldn’t let me follow my writing dreams.
Here’s to a new year (a month into it, anyway) and a new start.
Bring it on!
