You might not see these places recommended on traditional travel sites. But they are just too fun not to give them a mention. All three are places I stop at each time we travel to the Outer Banks.
Yes, there are some wonderful sit-down places to grab a bite to eat or to sit and chill with some friends. I’ll definitely feature some of those in the coming months.
But these three places are convenient, decadent, and random as heck. So, of course, I couldn’t wait to share them with others who might be traveling through the Outer Banks.
1. Brew Thru - The Coolest Convenience Store (in the World!)

We ARE at the beach. So who doesn’t love the idea of grabbing their drinks to go?
Yeah, yeah. I know you can’t drink on the beach (right?). But I’m sure you’re staying someplace. This quick, convenient, drive-through store has sodas, wine, beer, ciders, jerky, chips and so much more that I didn’t have time to see it all as we were making our way through.
How freakin cool is this!
2. Duck Donuts

This place might not be so random. I know Duck Donuts has branched out because we even have one in Atlanta, now. But they did originate in the Outer Banks and this was the first time I tried one of their super yummy cake donuts.
After trying a bite of someone’s plain, cake donut, I was immediately hooked. I had to have my own Duck Donut experience.
We stopped by on our way to the golf course. My first gourmet donut was an iced blueberry. O! M! G! It taste so good that I could not stop and savor this donut. I ate it while my husband grabbed a golf cart. He drove up to the car to unload the golf clubs and saw me eying his plain cake donut while licking the blueberry icing from my fingers.
My next trip, I grabbed the Coconut Key Lime. Another O! M! G! This one was just as tasty. It did not last the drive to the beach (and the store is just a few blocks from the beachfront).
These donuts are so worth the trip (and any break in diet plans…).
3. Biscuits N Porn - Don’t be turned off by the name

This place is in a little gas station located at MP 10.5.
And, yes, it is a gas station.
The owners had some super creative marketing idea and some crazy amazing biscuits. I’m told locals started calling it Biscuits and Porn because there is a small section on one wall where they sold adult magazines.
Now they sell souvenir cups, t-shirts, magnets, and dog bowls.
People from all over stop in to grab a cheese biscuit:
Sausage, egg, and cheese:
Chicken or pork chop biscuit, biscuits and gravy… Etc.
They have so many different options in this little gas station.
It’s easy to miss when you are driving by. But once you have one of their biscuits, I promise you will want another.
I hope you have enjoyed this random rundown of places I’ve found to be off the normal OBX travel registries, but WELL worth finding them for yourself.
I’d love to hear any off-the-beaten-path OBX places you have been to.
Cheers!
Tami
