-Dry/mild bitter taste that smooths out as the wine sits on the tongue
-Hits of vanilla and chocolate flavor
As soon as I saw this bottle in the store, I knew I had to try it. After all, I am a Storyteller, too. I just started branching out from my favorite White Zinfandel and wasn’t sure if I would like a Cabernet Sauvignon. I had heard they were a bit dry and bitter. Because I prefer something a bit sweeter, I wasn’t sure if would like this new flavor profile.
Verdict - Although I didn’t love the first taste that did indeed seem quite dry and bitter (maybe I felt this because that was what I had been told to expect). But when I let the wine sit on my tongue to try to determine the flavors I could detect, I found that the bitterness faded away and the taste smoothed out. I was able to detect a slight chocolate flavor with just a hint of vanilla. After drinking a full glass (and more…), I was not able to detect the dark cherry flavor that is advertised. Maybe after I have expanded my wine pallet. :)
In spite of my initial prejudices, I did enjoy this bottle of wine. The Cabernet Sauvignon may not be my go-to wine, but it will definitely hold a special place in my virtual wine cellar. And I am excited to try some of the other Storyteller wines.
Cheers!
