What Am I Reading?
I finished The Guy Next Door with Lori Foster, Susan Donovan and Victoria Dahl. Wowza! Talk about a hot read (or should I say three hot reads). I’m reviewing this trio of stories over at Petit Fours and Hot Tamales this coming Saturday, so definitely check back over there to see what I thought of these steamy spring break themes (hint – I am really wishing I could pack my bags for a spring break vacation…).
I also read C.C. Hunter’s Born at Midnight and Turned at Dark. I found the link to C.C. Hunter’s site during Barbara Vey’s Anniversary Bash. The book, Born at Midnight, tweaked my interest so I preordered it for my Kindle App on my Droid phone. This is where I tell you that I completely forgot about it. I clicked on my Kindle App while waiting for The Kid to finish swimming last week and was surprised with the automatic download (gotta love Amazon!). I decided to read a couple pages to see how it started and with just the first page, I WAS HOOKED! I spent the rest of the weekend stealing time to read a few pages here and there.
Born at Midnight is a young adult story about a girl dealing with her parent’s divorce. When she starts seeing a spooky stalker that no one else can see and her childhood nightmares return, her mother insists she see a shrink. But this shrink isn’t like any other and before Kylie Galen knows what is happening to her, she is being shipped off to a camp for troubled teens. Of course, this isn’t a normal camp and Kylie quickly finds out that the world is filled with scary monsters she’s only read about in books. Unfortunately, no one really knows how Kylie fits into this new world or what species she might be.
As Kylie tries to figure out her place in this new world, she finds some questions she’s not sure she wants answered. She also finds herself attracted to two very different boys, one a werewolf and the other half fae. After having been dumped by her previous boyfriend for not “putting out,” Kylie isn’t ready to trust her own judgment when it comes to boys.
Born at Midnight is a must read for anyone who likes the paranormal world. C.C. Hunter has done an amazing job of creating a unique world of her very own. I was both frustrated for Kylie as she dealt with her battling parents and curious as she explored the summer camp that would become her oasis. I am ready to jump into the next book in the series. Too bad I have to wait until October. L
As soon as I finished with this story, I immediately went to C.C. Hunter’s website and found that the short story, Turned at Dark, is a free download at Amazon. This is the story of Kylie’s new vampire friend, Della, and the story of her introduction to the supernatural world. If you haven’t read the books yet, download this one first because it introduced you to this new world.
I had no idea I would enjoy this series as much as I do, but I’m super glad that I found this author. (THANK YOU BARBARA VEY!!!!) C.C. Hunter and her Shadow Falls series are right at the top of my “Must Buy” list.
What am I reading now? Kiss and Tell by Suzanne Brockmann. This book was highly recommended to me during the last GRW meeting when Ms. Brockmann spoke to our group. I actually bought the first book in several of her series. If I like this one (and the others), I’m told I will have a ton of others to download on my Kindle App in order to catch up on each of the series… J
I’m looking forward to diving into this one.
Oh! If you haven’t heard about this yet, check out the Romance Trading Cards website. Barbara Vey and a number of authors started putting this together and I can’t wait to see what else they have coming out. This is kind of like collecting baseball cards, but with romance books and authors on the cover. How cool is that!
That’s me. What are you reading?

I love Lori Foster, but I’m not familiar with the other authors in that collection. Will look for it.
I’m trying to locate a book Tanya Michaels recommended about the Valkyrie…? Familiar with it?
And I’m also wanting Lover Unleashed, JRWard’s newest in her Dark Lover series… it’s Payne’s story.
Girrrlll….
Hey Pam! I have the last three books of JR Ward’s to read and I can’t tell you how excited I am to read Payne’s story!!!! I’m going to need to do some major catching up.
I can’t think of the Valkyrie story you are talking about but that name does sound familiar. If you don’t find it, let me know and I will ask a librarian I know.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting!!!
